When colleagues see you, not just your work, importance of reaching out
This week, two small moments reminded me of the power of connection.
1 — “Are you ok?”
I was tired.
A colleague noticed during a call.
Later, they reached out.
We talked—10 minutes, maybe 15. About work. About life.
And just like that, the weight lifted.
2 — “Shall we catch up?”
In a meeting, I spotted a familiar face presenting.
A colleague from Europe I once met in Tokyo while he traveled with his family.
I sent a quick chat: “Nice to see you here.”
He replied: “Shall we catch up?”
A few days later, we did.
Neither conversation was long.
But both left me feeling lighter, brighter, more energized.
The return is always disproportionate to the time spent.
🌍 Working across the globe is easier when colleagues notice, care, and connect.
And here’s the reminder I’m keeping for myself:
Don’t just enjoy being reached out to.
Be the one who reaches out.
“It turns out the fabric of work isn’t made of tasks—it’s made of moments of connection.”
