The Unexpected Gift of Offering My Hotspot
Just as I sat down at a cafe near home, a foreign gentleman sits down next to me. Asks the barista about WiFi.
“Sorry, no WiFi.”
I watched him walk to the window, desperately waving his phone in the air, trying to catch a signal.
Something in his body language told me this wasn’t just about checking email.
“Hey,” 👋 I called out. “Want to use my hotspot?”
His face lit up.
He immediately called his teenage son.
Then, one by one, his whole family walked into the cafe - mother, daughter, son.
They’d been looking for him.
I was kind of in a grumpy mood that I mistakenly took my clean trouser to the laundry just before the cafe. After his reunion, no sign of negativity left. Just gone.
🙏
The effort needed and the positive effect is so disproportionate. Hope I get this kind of opportunity to give a small helping hand several times a week.
💡
Over the years, I have trained myself to not shy away when I see a chance to engage and help. What I found is that if I think about it over 5 seconds doubt starts creeping in and I end up not taking action.(Oh what if I am being noisy and so on)
☕️ if you live in Tokyo this cafe’s coffee is great, although they don't have wifi
