Savoring the small wins at work and life, teaspoons of bliss
There are those small moments during work where I get sparks of joy.
- The customer accepted the meeting next week.
- During the meeting I got to know so much more about the person sitting in front of me.
- Even when a customer said no we cannot do it, I appreciated the effort this person put in to say no, while the easiest course of action is no response.
I noticed the sparks and for a moment thought, huh am I getting excited over too trivial things? But after some thought I try to savor those as much as I can.
As much as I yearn for the big wins to come, I cannot postpone satisfaction until that big win happens.
Even when the big wins do come, the joy of it does not last for eternity.
This I have learned over and over after the Korean SAT, getting into uni, being hired where I wanted to be hired, getting married, purchaisng the home I wanted. One thing after another were the kind of stage that at some point I fooled myself to thinking 'after this I will be truly satisfied!'
So I try to stop fooling myself in my work saying 'if I reach this amount of salary' or 'if I get this deal done' then I will be truly satisfied. I have to keep on savoring the daily, small wins, a tea spoon of bliss every day.
