Good time is when you dont have any desire to be elsewhere doing something else
I remember thinking this at Geoje during a family trip with mom, dad, and brother.
My brother and I were in university then.
We were at a quiet beach side, and Dad, my brother, and myself were throwing flat rocks to make them bounce.
And I thought, wow, this is perfect. I lost track of time. I don’t want to be elsewhere doing anything other than what we are doing now.
Isn’t that something? What more can a person want? I would dare say it is in some ways more beautiful than moments of big wins or sexual climax.
It is that feeling you feel when you are around a campfire with people you care about.
I think I feel such moments so much more acutely due to how distracted I was. Especially when I was growing up. Online games, fantasy novels, or animes. I often had moments where I felt like, “Gosh, I want to just go home and do x, y, z rather than this.”
Even when I was in front of nature’s most significant pieces of art. Like the Grand Canyon, the 9-year-old Yeop just wanted to play Pokémon Red or MapleStory with his brother at home. (And it hurts to say it, but the brother part is more of a bonus… sorry bro.)
So I cherish these moments when I feel at peace. No desire for something else. Just what’s in front is fine.
I yearn to have as many moments like this.
Bright side of the story is that being conscious of this seems to have a positive correlation to the frequency of these moments.
By being conscious, I mean collecting moments as such. As part of the routine diary practice, I capture these moments. Try to think of what led to it.
